The Game of Like and the Great Pumpkin
The Game of Like and the Great Pumpkin
I’ve learned there are three things you don’t discuss with people: religion, politics and the Great Pumpkin.
-Linus
Playing the Pre-Holiday Facebook: Game of Like has been a fantastic ride. Started on October 18, 2011 this Game of Like has transformed social media ‘newbies’ into experienced Facebook Page Admins. Besides the ‘liking’ of each others’ pages, many new social media skills are taught and celebrated.
Players have been encouraged to
- Read a book on Social Media
- Make a 5 image Holiday Banner for their Facebook Page
- Take and upload a video to a Facebook Page
- Collaborate on a project with another Facebook Page owner
- Engage with other admins
- Upload a picture of themselves working
- Engage in conversations on their own wall
- Learn how to use Twitter
- Write a blog post
- and more
Each player is already a winner of the Game of Like by playing, engaging and learning new skills. To keep the game moving, daily challenges are posted on the Facebook Page walls of the two co-hosts, More In Media and Idea Girl Media, as well as on the Facebook Event wall.
On Monday October 24 a challenge went out for the players of the Game of Like to ‘pick up some tools, pick up a pumpkin and carve a pumpkin into a Jack-O-Lantern representing their business’.
Boy, did our players love that.
Idea Girl Media and I are so proud to be playing with such great players in the Game of Like and we couldn’t let this achievement go by unnoticed.
Please enjoy this wall of freshly carved Jack-O-lanterns, representing the best-of-the-best on Facebook Pages and in the Game of Like.
Ohh. You didn’t tell me you were gonna kill it!

So what about this Great Pumpkin?
The ‘Great Pumpkin’ is the reward at the end. It represents what all the Pre-Holiday Facebook: Game of Like players are chasing – to be crowned Grand-Prize Winner of the (first) Game of Like.
There he is! There he is! It’s the Great Pumpkin! He’s rising out of the pumpkin patch!
-LinusYou can still get in the game to compete for the Great Pumpkin.

Hi Justin,
It’s been a blast!
Those who figured out the prize is not the ‘winning’ and the ‘liking’ but the interactions/engagement, the newly learned social media skills and the lasting connections; those are the real winners.
Therefore, everyone who puts something into it, will get something out of it.
Do you have a Facebook Page? It’snot too late to jump in…!
Thanks you for commenting on my post.

I’ m not this hard core yet, but the rule to read a book about social media is SUCH a great idea. I’m surprised I haven’t done this yet…I guess I spent too much online. The idea of uploading a picture of yourself working is also quite ingenious.
