15 Body Parts Needed To Succeed In Social Media
Beware…
This is what I will not be doing:
- I will not be giving you any tips on which social media platform to use.
- I will not be giving you any tips on which dashboard to claim.
- I will not be giving you any tips on what app to buy next.
Instead…
I will hand you ‘tools you already have in your toolbox’.
What do I mean?
I am going to show you what you have and use in life and apply this to using and engaging through social media.
Are you fully equipped?
Did you know
- an adult has 206 bones.
- a child has 350 bones.
- there are 639 skeletal muscles working together.
- the strongest muscle in the body is the tongue.
- a human brain weighs about 3lbs.
- you blink over 10,000,000 times a year.
- the average life of a taste bud is 10 days.
- the average human head weighs about 8 pounds.
- your ears and nose continue to grow throughout your entire life.
- during a 24-hour period, the average human will breathe 23,040 times.
- human blood travels 60,000 miles (96,540 km) per day on its journey through the body.
Our bodies are amazing. They are working machines! How can what you already have help you be successful in social media?
Read on…
Here are 15 body parts needed to succeed in Social Media!
- Watchful Eyes ~ Keep those eyes open! Always look for new ideas, new possibilities, new programs, new apps, new friends, new groups to join, new mentors. Having your eyes closed will mean opportunities will pass you by.
- Caring Heart ~ If you don’t care for people it shows. In real life; in social media, too. Share a bit of yourself with others and care when they share. It will show in what you do.
- Running Feet ~ Hit the ground running and never stop. There always is something new to learn and something more to do; use your feet to keep you moving. In social media especially, things change so quickly. Moving forward is important, or you’ll be left behind.
- Listening Ears ~ Be still, my friends. If you never listen, you drown out all the good stuff. Use your listening ears to find those that influence you on-line and beyond. Find the true industry leaders by listening and take to heart what they have to say. Then share their insights to your circle of on-line friends and continue the cycle.
- Loving Arms ~ Never refuse a good hug! Offer sympathy to those that need it, off-line or on-line. Be there for your friends and they will respond to you when you are the one in need of help.
- Winning Smile ~ Show them your smile by posting pictures of you, not just your logo. Be professional, but also know when to laugh and use humor. Encourage others to do well in business and perform random acts of kindness on-line, all with your winning smile
- Sturdy Backbone ~ Make sure your backbone is straight and sturdy; you will need it to stand your ground to bullies, negative people and push-overs. Your sturdy backbone supports your neck, your head and brain. Stay clear headed and stay with the vision. Your backbone will help you stay on the path to success, without straying or being misguided. You need your backbone to stand up for what you believe in.
- Detecting Nose ~ Your ‘stink-detecting’ nose is needed to sniff out fake people, spammers and negativity. If it smells like spam, it is. Keep your nose from being blocked by blowing it often and getting rid of the (s)not so great friends and negative people in your life. Blocked or overflowing noses get behind on the detecting and will drown in (s)not so great stuff. Blow out negativity, I say!
- Square Shoulders ~ Strong , square shoulders are needed to carry the weight of others if they ask to be carried along for a ride here and there. It’s OK to help others, but make sure your shoulders are not always carrying a load for friends. Sometimes, you need to carry your own. On-line supporting should go both ways and if it’s never reciprocated, it’s not a real friendship.
- Stomach Muscles ~ Stomach muscles support your backbone. Strong stomach muscles also help you look stream lined and make you stand up tall. They support your whole being. Don’t you want to look taller, stronger and leaner on-line? That backbone again…
- Strong Legs ~ The legs support the rest of the body. Without strong legs, your body will crumble and not be able to stand or move forward unsupported. They are your foundation. It’s your social media plan and your analysis. Do you have these?
- Flexible Mind ~ Thinking one way, and one way only, makes you narrow-minded. It’s like living with permanent blinders on. Never being open-minded will not get you anywhere. It will alienate your business contacts, your friends and your family. A flexible, open-minded mind is needed to be creative and to absorb new concept and ideas. Social Media is all about being able to not only absorb but implement new concepts, new ideas and new information. Flexibility is a must.
- Sharp Teeth ~ You need sharp teeth to sink into a project, hold on and not let go before it’s completed. Sharp teeth also will scare off predators, looking to take your projects, jobs or clients from you. A little protection is needed to prevent being run over by bullies and so-called on-line friends. Sharpen your teeth periodically by gnawing on a bone (a hard to learn new concept or platform) and chewing and chewing it until it’s small enough to digest.
- Bendy Knees ~ Stiff knees mean no flexibility. Bendy knees mean you are willing to kneel or stoop down to people’s level or stretch up to look them in the eye. Another way to say it: With bendy knees you are able to reach up and reach down and it gives you flexibility in working with others.
- Greasy Elbows ~ Last but not least: Got to have these! A little bit of elbow grease propels you forward ahead of the rest of the field. It drives you to work a bit harder, longer and better. A great way to slide ahead of your competition. In social media, competition is bountiful. Embrace it, work with it and then slide ahead.

I would give this an A on the blog glue scale.
Thanks, Joel.
Have you started your blog yet?
Let me know if I can assist in any way!
Fondly,
Dorien.
I don’t know how you came up with this idea, but I totally enjoyed it! Great post, Dorien!
Hi Vena,
sometimes I surprise myself..;)
I kind of shaped out of another blog post.
One of my other favorites is where social media get compared to baking cookies.
Thanks for coming to, and commenting on, my blog.
Fondly,
Dorien
Very clever! I have two more body parts that are useful in social media.
How about fingers….let them do the talking. We mostly do all the talking online, so we need our fingers to type. Also our chin. When things aren’t going our way on some days, we need to keep our chins up.
Great blog my friend! Have a great one!
xoxo
Oh…I love yours!
Fingers and chin! Great body parts.
Thanks for thinking along…:)
Dorien.
Wait…baking cookies? or was it that other one you used today?…. Very well done and all good points.
Yes! This was the post waiting in the blog, Fred.
I used this post as an example for the social media workshop today as I showed you I got an F- according to BlogGlue!
Did I fix it? Yes!
Images added, SEO optimization and a ‘Header’ and ‘Description’.
A for effort…for the teacher.
Good eye and kudos tot he student.
Dorien.
What an awesome blog!! It really makes you think about yourself and those around you. I especially like the part about keeping a strong backbone and surrounding yourself with positive people. It definitely gave me lots of food for thought and some body parts to work on.
Thank you so much — great stuff!
Wendy
Hi Wendy,

I am so glad you’ve taken to this ‘social media’ thing so well…;)
Feel free to add any body parts I might have missed.
The backbone is so import, you are right about that. Standing tall and proud!
Thanks for stopping by,
Dorien.
I love this post! Very inventive and witty.
How a bout a sense of balance for finding the right tone between professional and chatty. You have it just right.
Oh!
Debbie, I like it!
Sense of balance is great and needed! For sure. Maybe we can tie it back to the ear, as the sense of balance is connected there.
Thanks for visiting my social media blog!
Dorien.
outstanding!!! the section about listening ears is particularly meaningful to me. Luckily, even though I’m currently not the best listener, I am not a lost cause because as it turns out my ears are continually growing. thank you so much for your incredible perspective and friendship!
time to use my running feet!!
Ryan, you crack me up!
Yes: Use your listening ears and your running feet and you will succeed in social media and in you business as well!

Awww, thanks Andi!
My clients and business partners inspire me every day to do better, give more and share.
This post is one of the longest I ever took to write and I am pleased with how well it is received.
Your compliment about creativity means a lot to me, coming from such a talented artist as yourself.
Dorien.
Nice article! I like the listening ears
.
Thanks, Donna.
One of my favorites, too.
So many people forget to listen, they just blast out their own stuff on social media.
Thanks for stopping by the blog!
Dorien.
Great article… There is a lot to learn. You have started me on the right path ! Thanks !
Hi Steve,
feel free to ask questions here or on the Facebook wall of MoreInMedia, anytime. It was great to meet you at the social media workshop yesterday. I am glad you are in the Facebook Networking Group as well.
Get ready for a great ride!
Dorien.
How about taste buds? We need to have a good sense of taste to be able to judge whether we are crossing the line which might alienate people. My feeling is it’s ok to be controversial once in a while but not offensive and sometimes that can be a very thin line to judge!
Brilliant article Dorien and I salute you for coming up with such a brilliant idea
Tony,
thank you for thinking along and coming up with another ‘body part’.
I like taste buds and they certainly would be appropriate to add to a list like this.
Thanks for visiting my blog and tweeting it out.
Dorien
What fun, Dorien. I think your post is a great wake up call to remember not to focus myopically on tools and systems and remember that it’s really about the relationships. An enjoyable read!!
–Jayna
Hi Jayna,
You are right, this post is about leveraging all we already have to make social media a success.
So many people forget the social part of social media.
Even more forget about the human part.
Glad you enjoy this blog post.
Dorien.
Clever!
And very appropriate…
~Keri
Thanks, Keri.
I was inspired by working with a few good women.
Cheers!
Dorien.
Great blog, Dorien. You may have surprised yourself but not me. I knew you were very creative. Your bog was very intuitive and a good reminder to all of us to listen more and believe in ourselves.
Thanks, Sherrie!
I appreciate your feedback on the blog post and I appreciate you sharing it with your Facebook Fans even more.
That’s the best kind of compliment.
I am glad you got something out of it, too.
Happy Sunday,
Dorien.
Love it Dorien! We forget that using what we have is just as important as the “tools” made for us.
This is a wonderful post!
Hello and Thank you for such an amazing blog on social media. I love the metaphors and advice in each tip. I will definitely apply these practices for my new job venture.
Your new friend & fan,
Brandon McGrath
Hi Brandon,
thanks for leaving a comment to my blog post.
I enjoyed writing it and I am so glad you caught some of the play-on-words and metaphors.
Good luck with your new job ventures.
Dorien.
Dorien,
This is truly a unique way of talking business with words and parts we are all familiar with!
I especially like # 3 …
Running Feet ~ Hit the ground running and never stop. There always is something new to learn and something more to do; use your feet to keep you moving. In social media especially, things change so quickly. Moving forward is important, or you’ll be left behind.
One of my favorite sayings has been “I’d rather wear out than rust out.” As long as I keep moving there is progress.
Ellene,
so great to see you here, again
Aren’t we fortunate to have so many body parts?
I think maybe a Part II is needed. I’ve gotten some great suggestions!
Running feet is my personal favorite as well, as I relate everything I do to running:
I am a marathon runner and never sit still, never give up.
Love your quote as well:
One of my favorite sayings has been “I’d rather wear out than rust out.”
Cheers, Ellene!
Dorien.
Oh my goodness, this is one of the most clever posts I have read up on social media!! Thanks also for the anatomy lecture, and interesting how you put social media and anatomy together, it all makes sense!
What a creative post! It’s very refreshing to read amidst all of these business oriented articles! It kind of shows our lives are not all about business and marketing, but there is a human being behind every blog, every post, and hopefully every comment, well the ones with spirit, for sure. I also loved seeing the picture from the Bodies exhibition. I’ve already been three times at various points in my life, and it was always so awesome (in the original meaning of the word). I only know as much about the anatomy of the human body as we were taught in school, and as much I learned reading articles about cures for certain illnesses, so I really enjoyed walking through one of these exhibitions with a person who was studying medicine at the time and could explain to me how they made these “sculptures” and other interesting information. Anyway, thanks for bringing these inspired thoughts into our sometimes boring workdays! Best wishes, Leonard
Thank you, Leonard. I appreciate your kind words and I am glad you found the post creative.
It is really boring to keep writing the same tips and business advice over and over and over.
My ‘fun’ posts have a purpose, too. They show i am human and who I am.
Have a great day!
